FaerieBells Botanicals: Photos from the Garden
April
April can be such a tricky month here in New England. A blizzard is just as likely to happen as a heat wave and herbs that need to be attended to while young must be watched carefully. And some years, like last year - 2004, all the care and watchfulness in the world won't prevent the plants from disappearing into the stomachs of a hungry woodchuck family.
May
Ah. The merry month of May....
June
And if May was warm, June is when the competitions start. The Horehound starts to crowd the Woodruff which is in turn mixing it up with the Ajuga. The Wild Onions are so thick they look like clumps of grass. The Peppermint is fairly leaping out of its enclosed space, attaching itself to rocks, the shed, and anything else with which it comes into contact.
July
July is often our hottest month and can be very dry, even here on the coast. The humidity can be devastating though, and many of our plants and herbs will succumb to the almost inevitable onslaught of mildew.
